Annual Wellness Exams—The Foundation of Great Health

Keep your pet happy and comfortable with our veterinarians’ more than 50 years of experience and a gold standard of care—starting with wellness exams to ensure your pet is on track for a long, healthy life.

The Importance of Wellness Visits

Regular wellness exams are crucial to maintaining your pet’s overall health and well-being. During these exams, our veterinarians can detect and address any potential health concerns before they become more serious issues.

As pet owners, we know that our furry companions are more than just pets; they are family members who provide us with unconditional love and companionship. As such, it is our responsibility to ensure that they receive the best possible care to keep them healthy and happy.

One of the most crucial aspects of pet care is regular wellness exams. These check-ups are critical in detecting potential health issues before they become serious problems. Just like with humans, early detection is key to successful treatment and a better outcome for your pet.

During a veterinary wellness exam, your veterinarian will conduct a comprehensive physical examination of your pet, which includes:

  • Checking their eyes, ears, mouth, teeth, skin, and coat
  • Listening to their heart and lungs
  • Palpating their abdomen
  • Evaluating their musculoskeletal system
  • Checking weight

In addition to the physical examination, your vet may recommend additional diagnostic tests, such as blood work, urinalysis, or x-rays, to get a more complete picture of your pet’s health.

Regular veterinary wellness exams are essential. As pets age, they become more susceptible to various health issues such as arthritis, diabetes, kidney disease, and cancer. Regular check-ups can help detect these conditions early on, giving your pet the best chance for successful treatment.

Furthermore, veterinary wellness exams also provide an opportunity for you to discuss any concerns or questions you may have about your pet’s health with your veterinarian. They can offer advice on a range of topics such as nutrition, exercise, behavior, and preventative care.

Regular veterinary wellness exams are vital for the overall health and well-being of your furry family members. By scheduling routine check-ups, you are investing in your pet’s health and longevity, ensuring that they have a happy and healthy life with you for years to come.

Puppy & Kitten Care

Congratulations on your new kitten or puppy. We’re so excited for you!

The staff at Dupont Veterinary Clinic can’t wait to meet your new companion and help prepare you with the knowledge to keep your new puppy or kitten healthy and happy for years to come. There’s so much to learn—vaccinations, tests, diet, spaying or neutering, socializing, conditioning, training, and best practices to keep them safe and healthy. It can seem daunting! But do not fear! We are here to help!

When you come in for your initial visit, our veterinarians will take the time to answer your questions. You will have access to comprehensive puppy and kitten exams that will give you key information and explain initial tests and vaccinations. Only the latest vaccinations and vaccine protocols will be administered so you’ll have peace of mind, knowing your new companion is receiving all the protection they need (and none that they don’t).

For Your Kitten or Puppy’s First Visit:

  • Please keep your puppy on a leash or your kitten in a carrier.
  • Refrain from letting your puppy socialize with other pets inside or outside the hospital. It’s best to carry them in your arms to keep them from being exposed to viruses they haven’t been vaccinated against.
  • If your puppy or kitten is coughing or sneezing, let us know immediately.
  • Bring any records you may have from the shelter, pet store, or breeder.
  • Try to bring a fresh stool sample in a Ziploc bag or Tupperware container.
  • Bring a list of questions you would like to be addressed at your visit.

Our Neighborhood is Diverse, and So is Our Approach

Our staff understands that different cultural beliefs and budgets call for different approaches to veterinary medicine. We will personalize the care that your pet receives to match your preferences, so you’ll never have to worry about uncomfortable conversations or miscommunications.

Senior Pet Care

You love your older pet, and we want to help you keep them around as long as possible! We believe in detecting disease processes that affect elderly pets before they progress to a critical point. At the time of your pet’s next wellness visit, ask for more information about preemptive actions to keep your geriatric cat or dog healthy and safe.

The Facts of Microchipping

  • One in three pets will become lost at some point during their life.
  • The American Humane Association estimates over ten million dogs and cats are lost or stolen in the U.S. every year.
  • A study published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, including 53 animal shelters across the U.S., confirmed the high rate of return of microchipped dogs and cats to their families, and the importance of microchip registration. From the study:
    • Only about 22 percent of lost dogs that entered the animal shelters were reunited with their families. However, the return-to-owner rate for microchipped dogs was over 52 percent (a 238 percent increase).
    • Less than two percent of lost cats that entered the animal shelters were reunited with their families. The return-to-owner rate for microchipped cats was dramatically higher at over 38 percent (more than 2000 percent better).
    • Only 58 percent of the microchipped animals’ microchips had been registered in a database with their pet parent’s contact information.
